PING--Wounded Warriors Sports Project

PING is proud to be involved with the Wounded Warriors Sports Project. The Project is currently partnering with PGA of America to offer golf lessons at five of the major military medical centers in the U.S. The format involves running an eight week long course where Warriors receive instruction from PGA professionals that have been trained in adaptive teaching techniques. Those wounded warriors who attend at least six of the training sessions and have a permanent severe disability receive a full bag of custom-fit and custom-built PING golf clubs. If you would like additional information on the Wounded Warrior Sports Project, please feel free to contact that organization at (904) 296-7350 or visit www.woundedwarriorproject.org.

Young Marines Looking for "A Few Good Kids"

Over the past 10 years, Heart of Texas Young Marines has put 484 kids through this program. That’s 484 lives we’ve positively impacted. Many of them have gone on to college. One was the National Young Marine of the Year. Another is currently a Marine officer on Okinawa. I’m sure you agree that our youth represent the future of our country.

LtCol Rich Beil USMC (Ret.) is planning the The Jack Lummus-Young Marines Golf Tournament in Waco, Texas June 6, 2015 at Twin Rivers Golf Club in Waco. The purpose of this Golf Tournament is reach out to the parents of central texas to support the expansion of the Young Marines in Central Texas. Target date to raise funds for this event is September 1st 2014. We firmly believe that this golf tournament will ultimately become a sufficient revenue source to continue. But, it normally takes 2 to 3 years for an event of this type to become recognized and well established. It’s not uncommon, for the inaugural event, to have far fewer golfers show up than hoped for. I can only ask everyone to reconsider and help us reach our goal of $5,000 by September 1st by going to our event website and making a contribution today. For more information see Golf Tournament, Heart of Texas Young Marines.

 HEALTH CARE STUDY

Uchenna Nworah, a Nurse Practitioner at the VA Medical Center and doctoral candidate at Texas Women's University, is conducting research for her doctoral degree. She is interested in learning more about how male veterans from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan make decisions about using the health care resources that are available to them.
All male veterans who served in the U.S. military and fought in either Iraq or Afghanistan are eligible to participate in this study. You will have to meet with Ms. Nworah for an in-person interview, which will take about one hour. Anyone who participates will also receive a $25 gift certificate for their time.
For more information, please contact Uchenna at 713-906-0081 or via email at unworah@twu.edu.

A group of military wives founded the organization in 2006. They stood together as they witnessed, firsthand, the effects of the war on service members and their families.
